You may not ever think of Gwyneth Paltrow as being country. She lives in Europe, has a husband who is a rock/alternative star, Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay and you never really think of her as a singer.

But you may be surprised. She sings and she sings well.

Gwyneth plays a country singer, Kelly Canter, in the upcoming movie Country Strong alongside a real country singer, Tim McGraw and she does her own singing.

You can hear the single “Country Strong” here. It also hit the country radio stations this week and we’ll see if they play it. They might as well because it actually sounds pretty good.

The single will be released on October 26 on RCA Nashville and the motion picture “Country Strong” will be in theaters on December 22.

“Salt”, the much publicized Angelina Jolie movie came in at second place with $36.5 million.

And “Despicable Me” is still having a good showing in at third place and $24.1 million.

Fourth place wend to “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” at $9.7 million with “Toy Story 3” bringing up the Fifth position with $9.0 million.

“Ramona and Beezus” showed at sixth place over the weekend with $8.0 million.

Not fairing so well was the new Nicolas Cage movie, “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”. It came in at third place with just $17.4 million.

“Despicable Me” hit second place this weekend with $32.7 million.

“The Twilight Saga:Eclipse” came in at fourth place with a $13.5 million showing

And “Toy Story 3” rounded out the top five bringing in $11.7 million for the weekend.

Well, that and lesbian parents in the new movie “The Kids Are Alright”.

When their teenage kids find their biological father, who was really just a sperm doner. The bio-dad is played by Mark Ruffalo.

Moore says that the movie “is kind of about all of us, what it’s like to grow up, what it’s like to watch your child leave you, what it’s like to maintain a long-term relationship, all the things that family means to us”.

The film opens today at selected theaters.

“Despicable Me” took first place at the box office over the weekend with an estimated $60.1 million.

Another new release for the weekend “Predators” came in at the number 3 spot at $25.3 million.

And of course, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” had a 2nd place showing at $33.35 million. It has made $237 million in the first 12 days and is widely expected to pass up the second movie in the series, “New Moon” which grossed $296.6 million in 2009.

The first day, Wednesday, it brought in $68.5 million, which is very good but not as good as its predecessor, “New Moon”. “New Moon” brought in $72.7 million on the first day when it came out in 2009. “Eclipse” had the second-best opening-day ever.

Over the weekend the movie brought in another $69 million, bringing the 5-day total to $161 million, making it 7th in the list of all time 5-day openers. “New Moon” brought in brought in approximately $3 million more during its opening 5 days and the record for 5-day openers is held by “The Dark Knight”.

Despite some poor reviews, “The Last Airbender” came in at second place with over $40 million on the weekend, over $60 million since its release on Thursday.

“Toy Story 3” came in at third place. “Toy Story 3” is on its way to becoming one of the most successful Pixar movies of all time, as it is close to surpassing “Up”, which is now at 2nd place for Pixar. “Up” has made $293 million so far. The number one selling Pixar movie of all times is “Finding Nemo” at $340 million.
“Grown-ups” and “Knight and Day” came in at 4th and 5th respectively.

Next week expect a re-release of an old favorite, “Grease” with Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta. Can’t wait for that, Love that movie, a classic!

“Eclipse” brings back Edward, Bella and Jacob and rumor has it that it is even better than “New Moon”. Bringing intrigue, murder and mayhem and of course, as always the choices that Bella must make.

For better or worse, depending upon your point of view, there is only one more book left in the saga. “Breaking Dawn” is the fourth book and of course, you can probably expect a movie at some point in the future.

Toy Story 3 was again tops at the box office for the second week in a row with an estimated $59 million for the second weekend raising its domestic total to an estimated $226.6 million.

Adam Sandler’s ‘Grown-Up’s” came in at second place with a respectable $41 million.

And the Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz film “Knight and Day” came in with the worst results for a Tom Cruise action movie in the past 20 years. And while many are blaming his poor results on his couch-jumping, undying love declarations for Katie Holmes on Oprah’s couch from 4 years back maybe the real reason is that we’re just getting sick of Tom Cruise. The fact is that none of his latest movies have even come close to his heyday’s of “Top Gun” or even “Cocktail” (well, maybe “Cocktail” is an exaggeration but some of us loved that movie). Anyway, will he recover….or not. Apparently, “Knight and Day” is not his ticket.

However, “Knight and Day” came in at third over the weekend with $27.8 million following a Wednesday release (so the truth is that they even had two extra days, weekdays but extra nevertheless).

“Knight and Day” had a production budget of about $107 million so at this point they are operating at a serious loss. They may still be able to make it up, though but early returns are not looking good.

“Karate Kid” and “The A-Team” came in at fourth and fifth respectively.

Bringing in poor reviews is the latest comics to movie adaptation of “Jonah Hex”.

Josh Brolin stars as Jonah Hex, a former soldier in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. His enemy, Quentin Turnbull, played by John Malkovich, murders his family right in front of him and it scars his face along with his soul for life.

Later, he becomes a bounty hunter with a reputation that extends across the entire country, apparently because he “talks to dead people” (no, I don’t think it is like that ala “The Sixth Sense”) because he was given the power by magical Indians.

Megan Fox plays a hooker, love interest (or not) of Jonah.

In theaters now.
