Now showing in theaters is “8:The Mormon Proposition”. This documentary exposes the Mormon church’s involvement in the promotion and passage of California’s Proposition 8 and the religion’s long campaign against gay rights. The film takes place in California and Utah, the headquarters of the LDS church, following the church’s prophet’s call to action to do whatever they could to deny gays and lesbians the right to marry and the rights that come with it.
Written and directed by Reed Cowan, a reporter and gay man who was raised as a Mormon in Roosevelt, Ut.
The movie was first shown at the Sundance Film Festival in early February 2010.
