A joint statement between CBS, Warner Brothers television and “Two and a Half Men” creator Chuck Lorre announced that production of the popular sitcom would be “temporarily suspended” and the maintained their support of the popular actor.

The past couple of weeks have been in reruns due to the Winter Olympics but new shows are due to begin again soon. New shows of “Two and a Half Men” have been taped but it is not known at this time if there are enough to last until Charlie’s stint in rehab is up.

So at this time America’s favorite TV comedy is in limbo.

Big bummer when these guys’ personal life has to affect all of us!!

Time to download other seasons of “Two and a Half Men” so we won’t miss Charlie so much!

Kay Scarpetta is a medical examiner in 17 mystery novels by Patricia Cornwell. For almost 2 decades various movie studios have attempted to bring the character to the big screen. However, recent interest by Angelina Jolie—who really does fit the part well, if you have read the book—has revived interest in making the movie franchise.

This will be the first time that a book by Patricia Cornwell has been adapted to a movie, which is exceptionally rare for a best selling author that has been as popular and sold as many books as she has.

Shooting for the film could begin as early as Fall 2010.

With the premiere of “Shutter Island” last weekend a personal record for both Scorcese and DiCaprio was reached. The film came in first at the box office with a record of $40.2 million dollars.

Scorcese’s past personal record came with “The Departed”, which also starred DiCaprio and brought in $26.9 million on its opening weekend.

DiCaprio’s past personal record was with “Catch Me If You Can” in 2002, which brought in $30.1 million.

“Shutter Island” is a creepy crime thriller set at a remote insane asylum. It is based upon the book of the same name by Dennis LeHane. Previous books into movies by Dennis LeHane include “Mystic River” and “Gone, Baby, Gone”.

An incredibly funny movie but one that is only appropriate for adults is “The 40-year-old Virgin” starring Steve Carell as Andy Sitzer, a 40-year-old man who works in an electronics store, rides a bike and is still a virgin even at his advanced age. His friends and co-workers find out about his secret and the quest is on to get Andy some sexual experience. Hilarious mishaps abound throughout.

However, later on he meets Trish, a 40-year-old single mom of three and they date for a long time until he finally reveals his secret. He discovers at the end that it’s better to do it with someone you love anyway. The movie is rated R for excessive sexual content, occasional drug use and bad language. This movie is inappropriate for children and people who are offended by sexual situations. Stars Steve Carell as Andy, Catherine Keener as Trish and Paul Rudd, Seth Rogan, Elizabeth Banks and others.

A funny movie about being the underdog is “Dodgeball, A True Underdog Story”. A silly and humorous movie about how an owner of a gym called Average Joe’s gym and how he and his friends must win a dodgeball tournament in order to save the gym from being taken over by Globo Gym, a franchise.

Great horror movies often get remade over and over again. “House on Haunted Hill” first came out in 1959 and then again in 1999, 40 years later. In the movie a millionaire and his wife offer 5 guests the chance to earn some money, ironically with inflation it was only $10,000 in 1959 and a cool $1,000,000 in 1999, if they can stay the entire night in a haunted house.

In the 1959 version the millionaire was played by Vincent Price. Other players included Carol Ohmart, Richard Long, Alan Marshal, Carolyn Craig and Elisha Cook. The characters changed names, occupations and characteristics in the 1999 version but the storyline remained the same. Geoffrey Rush played the millionaire, along with Famke Jannsen as his wife. The guests included Taye Diggs, Peter Gallagher, Chris Kattan, Ali Larter and Bridgette Wilson.

Throughout history the most infamous vampire has always been Dracula. The first Dracula movie, starring Bela Lugosi as Dracula, was released in 1931. In 1992, Gary Oldman played Dracula and Wynona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins and Keanu Reeves were also cast in the movie.

Many adaptations of Dracula have been made throughout the years and though there are some differences the main story remains the same, a vampire inflicts fear on the residents of Transylvania. Bram Stoker wrote the original novel back in 1897.

Another movie to check out is “The Prince of Darkness” from 1987. An abandoned church in Los Angeles holds a long-lost and forgotten canister that is filled with pure evil. The devil himself could be unleashed and it could destroy civilization, as we know it. The Pastor of the church and some students must stop the destruction.

The Pastor is played by Donald Pleasence, also starring Jameson Parker, Victor Wong, Lisa Blount and rock-star Alice Cooper plays a street schizo. John Carpenter directed this horror movie.

In 1987, Dudley Moore and Kirk Cameron played father and son who switched places in the movie “Like Father, Like Son”. The father accidentally sprinkles a magical Indian potion into his bloody Mary and instantly he and his have switched up identities. A Chinese restaurant and a magical fortune cookie on Thursday evening bring about a Friday to remember. But the wedding is on Saturday. Will they be switched back in time? Starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Lindsay Lohan and Mark Harmon.

And next a movie about someone pretending to have a different identity, “Mrs. Doubtfire” is about a free spirited husband and father who gets a divorce after fourteen years. He cannot bear the thought of being away from his children so he dresses up as a British nanny and his ex-wife hires him.

Robin Williams stars as the dad and of course, Mrs. Doubtfire, Sally Fields is the mom and Lisa Jakob, Matthew Lawrence and Mara Wilson play the children. Mrs. Doubtfire is a wonderful family movie from 1993 that should not be missed.

Hollywood seems to be able to pour a limitless amount of money into a movie in order to make it a blockbuster. However regardless of the amount of money spent on making a film until the movie actually hits the box office and brings in huge receipts in ticket sales it is a gamble. Of course, there are a very few directors who seem to have a magic touch and seem to always do well and there are a few actors that Hollywood seems to be able to bank on, however, even the best directors and actors have failing movies.

With what seems like millions of movies that have been made it may seem like by now Hollywood would have the secret formula and know exactly how to make a hit movie. But the only thing in life that is a constant is that things change and public opinion changes constantly. There have been big-budget films that seem to have everything that is necessary for huge success and it still bombs completely at the box office.

An excellent example of this phenomenon happened in the not to distant past. In 2005, the film “Sahara” was released with an all-star cast, great special effects and more. The film actually did quite well at the box office where it opened to $18 million on the first weekend. The movie generated $122 million in gross-box office receipts, which is not too bad. But this movie was extremely expensive to make. It ended up losing a ton of money because it had expenses of $281.2 million throughout the production yet it only brought in revenues of $202.9 million. “Sahara” was one of the biggest financial failures in Hollywood history.

Looking at the contrast, in 1999, “The Blair Witch Project” actually had the highest ratio of box office sales compared to production costs in American filmmaking history until 2009 when “Paranormal Activity” exceeded it. There are varying reports on the production cost of “The Blair Witch Project” but the highest estimate was at $100,000. This movie grossed over $248 million at the box office worldwide.

One key element but by no means a guarantee for box office success is creating a buzz with media coverage. This can create a frenzy of anticipation that can contribute greatly to a great opening weekend. But opening weekend receipts never tell the whole story and in order to be a huge box-office success a movie must continue to be popular.

Even though Hollywood has brought us so many movies and one might consider that they would have figured out how exactly to make a blockbuster hit, a large part of the excitement for producers and moviegoers alike is the fact that there are no guarantees. “Sure thing” movie plots and “can’t miss” actors don’t really exist.

There will always be those shocking box office surprises, either the unexpected blockbuster hit or the failure that no one could predict. And that is part of the magic and attraction of movies and Hollywood; you never know just what might be the huge box-office success.
