An incredibly funny movie but one that is only appropriate for adults is “The 40-year-old Virgin” starring Steve Carell as Andy Sitzer, a 40-year-old man who works in an electronics store, rides a bike and is still a virgin even at his advanced age. His friends and co-workers find out about his secret and the quest is on to get Andy some sexual experience. Hilarious mishaps abound throughout.
However, later on he meets Trish, a 40-year-old single mom of three and they date for a long time until he finally reveals his secret. He discovers at the end that it’s better to do it with someone you love anyway. The movie is rated R for excessive sexual content, occasional drug use and bad language. This movie is inappropriate for children and people who are offended by sexual situations. Stars Steve Carell as Andy, Catherine Keener as Trish and Paul Rudd, Seth Rogan, Elizabeth Banks and others.
A funny movie about being the underdog is “Dodgeball, A True Underdog Story”. A silly and humorous movie about how an owner of a gym called Average Joe’s gym and how he and his friends must win a dodgeball tournament in order to save the gym from being taken over by Globo Gym, a franchise.
The movie stars Vince Vaughn as Peter, the procrastinating and underachieving proprietor of Average Joe’s gym and Ben Stiller as White Goodman, a super rich, super fit and egotistical president and founder of the Globo Gym franchise. Look for an unexpected cameo by cyclist Lance Armstrong. Hilarious situations and funny characters are in this movie. Enjoy!
The third recommendation is a funny movie that is based upon an even funnier TV series from the 1960’s. “The Beverly Hillbillies” is adapted from the hilarious television series of the same name. The Clampetts move to Beverly Hills when they become millionaires after finding oil on their Arkansas property.
If you are familiar with the TV series you will see that the movie is cast quite well. Jim Varney is Jed Clampett and Cloris Leachman does a good job as Granny. Lily Tomlin is Miss Jane Hathaway while Diedrich Bader is great as Jethro Bodine. Erika Eleniak plays Elly Mae Clampett. The movie is funny and entertaining but not nearly so much as the TV show that many of us grew up watching.
