Movie Streaming Gets Easier With PS3 And Netflix

by Kevis on October 27, 2009

PlayStation 3 owners will soon join the ranks of Xbox 360 owner by being able to download movies and TV shows from Netflix by using their gaming console.

Sony Corp., the maker of PlayStation 3 and Netflix, the DVD rental company, recently announced their plan to join forces. Movie streaming downloads will be available for free to PlayStation 3 owners who have a Netflix subscription. Netflix subscriptions including movie downloads start at the low price of $9.00 a month.

Netflix streaming has been available on a variety of gaming devices for a while now. One advantage that PlayStation 3 owners will have over the Xbox 360 is that on the Xbox 360, the Netflix streaming is only available to the Xbox Live “Gold” members, who pay a membership fee of $50 each year in order to play games online with friends in another location. There are no extra fees involved with the PlayStation 3.

Movie streaming is fast becoming an important way to get movies. Downloading your movies right at home is the wave of the future. PlayStation 3 is now a big part of that trend.

PlayStation 3 owners will receive a Blu-ray disc from Netlix that will access the Internet and activate the Netflix system so that owners can find the movies to stream right to their own home.
