Naomi Watts is going to star as one of the most iconic sex symbols of the 20th century, Marilyn Monroe.
The film will be based upon the fictional account of Marilyn’s life, “Blonde” written by Joyce Carol Oates, author of many best-selling novels.
The book was published in 2000 and it caused quite a stir, mostly because of over 700 pages of suggestive details over Marilyn’s sex life with “the ex-athlete”, “the Playwright” and “the President” representing Joe DiMaggio, Arthur Miller and John F. Kennedy. None of the names of the actual men were used in the book and they were only referred to by the nicknames.
The film, which will also be called “Blonde” will start shooting in January. It will trace Marilyn’s life from her humble beginnings as Norma Jeane Baker and on through her life until her death in 1962 at age 36 from an overdose that has been listed as everything from a suicide, to an accident, to even something as sinister as murder.
While the book is a fictionalized account and is not historically accurate, it has been nominated form a Pulitzer Prize and the author has said that it has a “poetic truth”.
