Martin Scorcese and Leonardo DiCaprio have collaborated four times, previously on “The Departed”, “Gangs of New York” and “The Aviator” and most recently on “Shutter Island”.
With the premiere of “Shutter Island” last weekend a personal record for both Scorcese and DiCaprio was reached. The film came in first at the box office with a record of $40.2 million dollars.
Scorcese’s past personal record came with “The Departed”, which also starred DiCaprio and brought in $26.9 million on its opening weekend.
DiCaprio’s past personal record was with “Catch Me If You Can” in 2002, which brought in $30.1 million.
“Shutter Island” is a creepy crime thriller set at a remote insane asylum. It is based upon the book of the same name by Dennis LeHane. Previous books into movies by Dennis LeHane include “Mystic River” and “Gone, Baby, Gone”.
