The highly anticipated and promoted new movie “Water for Elephants”, which was an amazing book by the way, did not have high marks at the box office over the weekend, coming in at third place with just $17,500.000.00 in total box office receipts.

The number one movie was a repeat of last week’s number one. “Rio” was down 31.7% from last week’s high but it still managed to hold onto the number one spot bringing in $26,800,000.00

In the number 2 spot was the new movie from Tyler Perry, “Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family” which just barely lost the top billing for the week as it brought in almost as much as “Rio” with totals of $25,750,000.00

“Hop”, the movie that was all about the Easter bunny continued its run with a showing at the fourth spot bringing in $12,461,000.00

And in the fifth spot for the Easter weekend was “Scream 4”, which brought in a total of $7,154,000.00

And the one you’ve all been waiting for, “Scream 4” hits theaters today. Bringing back the most of the original cast, Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox along with newcomers Emma Roberts and Mary McDonnell. Ghostface reappears when Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell, returns to her hometown of Woodsboro for the last stop of her self-help book tour. Horror. Rated R.

And from the same people who brought us “Ice Age” is “Rio”, a comedy adventure about taking a walk on the wild side. Blu is a domesticated Macaw who never learned how to fly. He lives with his owner Linda and they believe that he is the last of his kind, however, when they learn of another like him they take a trip to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to find his female counterpart. Adventure and danger ensues and it turns out that Blu will have to find the courage to learn how to fly. Animated Adventure. Rated G.

“The Conspirator”, reviewed here earlier this week. From director Robert Redford, starring Robin Wright as Mary Surratt, a 42 year old female owner of a boardinghouse who was the only woman charged with conspiracy in the murder of President Abraham Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth. Mary must rely on her newly-minted and reluctant lawyer to defend her in a military tribunal. Drama. Rated PG-13.

“The Princess of Montpensier” set in France in 1562. Classic love story, girl from aristocratic societ falls in love with a man below her even while her hand is promised to the Prince of Montpensier. Love story. Not yet rated.

“The Imperialists Are Still Alive” a successful visual artist works in post 9-11 Manhatten and watches the situation in the Middle East on TV. She learns that a childhood friend is the purported victim of a CIA abduction. Conspiracy theories abound. Not yet rated.

“Dumbstruck” the story of five professional ventriloquists of all different levels of abilities, talents and fame. Rated PG.

“Footprints” chronicles a young woman’s journey of discovery in one day from sunrise to sunset. Not yet rated.

The law can be interesting and of course, there are some great stories that come around about lawyers.

IMDb recently put together a list of the 25 best movies about lawyers. Who knows if they are in any specific order as “The Lincoln Lawyer”, which was a really good book by the way, was in first place and one of those classic movies that everyone loves, the movie and the book, “To Kill a Mockingbird” came in at number 6.

It’s interesting that many of the movies on the list started out as great novels. Number 3 on the list “Primal Fear” was based upon the novel by the same name by William Diehl. Richard Gere plays the attorney Martin Vail and Edward Norton plays Aaron Stampler. The movie was great. The book was awesome. If you love books you need to check this one out for sure and if you love movies, again you must check this one out for sure.

Also, John Grisham has written many a legal thriller and three of the movies on the list were adapted from his novels. “A Time to Kill”, with Matthew McConaughey in his first starring role and based upon the novel of the same name, which just happened to be John Grisham’s first published novel (and in my opinion his best ever!). “The Firm” with Tom Cruise, also a great Grisham book. And finally “The Rainmaker” with Matt Damon.

Jodi Picoult, another great author also has a novel made into a movie that made the list. “My Sister’s Keeper” will rip your heart out. Both the book and the movie were great, however, the ending of the book was much more compelling and much more unexpected than how they ended up ending the movie. In fact, that was probably the only disappointment in the film.

“Presumed Innocent” with Harrison Ford and Brian Dennehy was adapted from Scott Turow’s first novel.

A couple of the movies on the list are based upon true stories about lawyers who took up the cause of huge corporations dumping toxic waste. You probably remember “Erin Brockovich” with Julia Roberts and “A Civil Action” with John Travolta.

Another true story is “Conviction” with Hillary Swank. This movie follows the life of “Betty Anne Waters” a single mother who puts herself through law school to defend her brother from unjust charges.

And of course, there are a bunch of others that all look like great movies, especially if you’re into that kind of thriller. The law is often interesting, very much intriguing and of course, compelling with its stories.

Check out the list here 25 great movies about lawyers.

Enjoy!

Now showing at theaters is “Sucker Punch”. Billed at an “epic action fantasy” it sounds like a big adventure between what is real and what is imaginary from dreams. Rated PG-13, scored high with the critics.

“Bonnie and Clyde vs. Dracula” And you can count on this one being just as good as it sounds!!

And every fourth grader’s favorite book series comes to life again with “Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Roderick Rules”, a sequel to the surprise hit from 2010. In this movie, Roderick and his chief tormentor and older brother Greg, are encouraged to bond by their parents.

“Miral: Is this the face of a terrorist”, a first person diary of a young girl growing up in East Jerusalem as she encounters the effects of occupation and war in every corner of her life.

“Peep World” A family must come to terms with the publication of a novel written by the youngest sibling, which details many of the families most intimate secrets, all on the eve of the father’s 70 birthday.

“White Irish Drinkers” follows a dysfunctional Irish family in the summer of 1975.

“Potiche” French for submissive, housebound “trophy housewife”. Said to be a hysterical and hilarious satirical twist on the war between the sexes and the classes.

“The Fifth Quarter” based upon a true story about brothers, football and the tribute one brother makes to the other brother after his death.

“The Salamander Key” A group of scientists disappear on a remote island after discovering that high-tech laboratory testing has been conducted on animals and humans. Their last communication before disappearing warns of imminent and grave global disaster.

And of course, there are last weeks releases that may still be going strong. “Limitless” and “The Lincoln Lawyer” would be my choices.

Enjoy!

“Rango” is holding steady in the top spots as it came in second place with total receipts of $15,076,575.00

And “Battle: Los Angeles” was in the third place spot with $14,538,429.00

Apparently there are fewer readers of legal thriller novels than I would have thought because the movie I was looking forward to (because of having read the great novel) “The Lincoln Lawyer” came in at the fourth place spot with $13,206,453.00

The alien movie “Paul” was in at the fifth place spot bringing in $13,043,310.00

In all the excitement of waiting for the movie to come out after reading the great book “The Lincoln Lawyer” I got ahead of myself last week and mistakenly said that the movie was hitting theaters last week. Wrong.

But not now. Now it really is coming out today. “The Lincoln Lawyer” with pretty boys Matthew McConaughey (huh, do you think that might be an Irish name?) and Ryan Phillipe is really hitting theaters today and I even got an advertisement from Groupon to see it for $1.00, don’t know much about that but check it out.

And “Paul” is also in theaters today. That is the one about the funny little alien played by Seth Rogan.

“Limitless” also comes out today. This movie has received some great reviews, with 7 out of 7 people rating it as “Superb”.
