Billy Bob’s Best

As far as talented actors go, most would have to admit that Billy Bob Thornton is one of the best. He may not be the prettiest, that distinction goes to Matthew McConaughey or Bradley Cooper, or the ugliest, not sure who gets that one, or the funniest, that may be Will Farrell or Adam Sandler, but as far as pure raw talent goes Billy Bob has it.

I kept waiting for my favorite and it came in last, which of course made it first. If you haven’t seen “Slingblade” it is highly recommended.

J’Lo Needs A Different Backup Plan

Because she can’t ever pull off romantic comedies.

Remember “Maid in Manhattan”? and “the Wedding Planner”?

Well, her latest attempt “The Backup Plan” may have actually been worse. And it is a shame that Alex O’Loughlin played her love interest. (Course, he may have been the only redeeming factor in the film, because he does look good.).

But J’Lo’s character, “Zoe” was totally unlikable. And the relationship between her and “Stan”, Alex O’Loughlin’s character, was totally unbelievable. She treated him poorly, yet the poor guy just kept pursuing her, artificially inseminated pregnancy and all.

There were also a couple of scenes that were quite vulgar and disgusting….I mean, just because you’re pregnant does not mean you lose all sense of decorum.

And apparently I was not the only one who didn’t like the movie. Check out the reviews for yourself.

The Backup Plan is not worth the time it takes to watch.

And Jennifer Lopez does not have the magic or charisma to pull off a romantic comedy….

Exorcism At The Box Office

“The Last Exorcism” took the weekend box office with a slim lead over “Takers”. Exorcism took in $21.3 million while “Takers” settled at $21 million. The numbers were extraordinarily close.

Following 2 weeks in the number one spot “The Expendibles” slipped down to third place with $9.5 million, making its total take so far $82 million.

“Eat, Pray, Love” is holding steady in fourth, with $7 million for the weekend.

“The Other Guys” was fifth with $6.6 million.

3-D Television With No Glasses?

If you have stepped into an electronics store and looked at the 3-D televisions, you may have noticed that they look funny. In fact, they just look like a blurry mess without the glasses that go with them. And when I looked through the glasses, it still looked blurry to me! Don’t know what caused that.

But the Japanese electronics maker Toshiba Corporation said Tuesday that it is in the process of developing a technology for 3-D television that will not require the special 3-D glasses.

(That would be a good thing for families with young kids, as any parent knows that things like 3-D glasses and remote controls and really, anything that is not permanently attached tend to go missing….)

The technology involves the transmission of different images at various angles to create the illusion of dimension and depth.

Look for the new TV’s in the near future.

“The Expendibles” Remain In First

The dog days of summer must be here as the box office was relatively slow over the weekend.

“The Expendibles” took first place at the box office again this weekend taking in just $16.5 million.

But in a surprising showing the horror spoof “Vampires Suck” took in $12.2 million to nab second place. The film pokes fun at the ever popular Twilight series.

“Eat, Pray, Love” held steady at third place, with $12 million in gross receipts, just missing the mark for second.

“The Lottery Ticket” was fourth.

“The Other Guys” came in at fifth place.

The seventh and eighth spots were held by “Nanny McPhee Returns” and “The Switch” respectively.

Woody Beats Out Shrek

“Toy Story 3” has now beat out “Shrek” to become the top-grossing animated film worldwide.

“Toy Story 3’ has now taken in a total of $920 million compared to the former record set by “Shrek” of $919.8 million. It has also set the record of being the fourth-highest grossing film from Disney coming in just after the two “Pirates of the Caribbean” and Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland”.

During the opening weekend of June 18, “Toy Story 3’ was the highest-grossing opening weekend for Pixar, with a $109 million haul in North America and also the 11th Disney/Pixar to debut in the number 1 position for opening weekends.

For those of you who have missed it at the theater, “Toy Story 3” will be released on Blu-ray and DVD right on time for the Holidays on November 2, 2010.

Eat, Pray, Love Is Expendable

“Eat, Pray, Love” is expendable.

Not a fan of the book and seriously tired of the hype for the new movie, “Eat, Pray, Love”. Maybe I’m not the only one that is not that excited about the narcissistic love fest because despite all the hype, the Oprah shows, the slide shows of Julia Roberts again and again, “Eat, Pray, Love” missed out on the top spot at the box office over the weekend falling short by about $12 million.

“The Expendables” starring Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis and California’s Governor (Yes, I asked that same question, “doesn’t he have better things to do?”) Arnold Schwarzenegger came in at number 1 for the week, ending up at $35,030,000.00

“Eat, Pray, Love” did show in second place, with $23,700,000.

And last week’s number one “The Other Guys” made a third place showing at $18,000,000.

The ever-popular “Inception” was fourth, with $11,370,000.00

“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” came in at fifth with $10,525,000.00.

Inception Number 1 For Three Weeks In A Row

Inception again took the box office over the weekend with $27.5 million and an accumulative total of $193.3 million since release

Coming in at number two was the new Steve Carell comedy, “Dinner For Schmucks” with $23.3 million.

Last week’s number two film, “Salt” ended up in third place this week with a take of $19.2 million.

Numbers 4 and 5 were “Despicable Me 3D” and “Cats & Dogs 3D: Kitty Galore” respectively.

A big disappointment for all involved was the new Zac Efron film “Charlie St. Cloud” that showed at 6th place with a dismal take of only $12.1 million

And “Toy Story 3D” is continuing its amazing run, coming in at 7th place over the weekend despite having been released weeks ago. It now has cumulative receipts of $389.6 million.

Best and Worst So Far….

Even with all the star power, Valentines Day is being rated as one of the worst of 2010, while the much anticipated “Inception”, which easily slid into first place over the past weekend is one of the best.

Leonardo DiCapprio is having a great year, while Jennifer Aniston, Nicolas Cage and Tom Cruise, not so much.

Being touted as one of the best movies of the year so far, Inception hit all expectations and brought home $60.4 million over the weekend.

Not fairing so well was the new Nicolas Cage movie, “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”. It came in at third place with just $17.4 million.

“Despicable Me” hit second place this weekend with $32.7 million.

“The Twilight Saga:Eclipse” came in at fourth place with a $13.5 million showing

And “Toy Story 3” rounded out the top five bringing in $11.7 million for the weekend.
