PLOT: This is Quentin Tarantino’s long awaited World War 2 epic, having to do with a group of Jewish-American soldiers- who parachute into France to wreak havoc on the Nazis.

REVIEW: I loved this movie! It’s exactly as I hoped a war movie directed by Quentin Tarantino would be. I’ll tell you right now that I had my doubts about whether or not it would or could deliver. The title of the film was inspired by director Enzo Castellari’s 1978 Dirty Dozen-like war film The Inglorious Bastards. However, Tarantino’s film is not a remake.

The word from the Cannes premiere wasn’t the most enthusiastic, although that should not worry you too much, as Tarantino always makes movies that divide audiences- and Inglourious Basterds is no different. You either love it, or you don’t, and judging from the great response it got at the Fantasia Film Fest, where it made it’s Canadian premiere, more people will love it than hate it.

Brad Pitt as 1st Lieutenant Aldo Raine, aka “Aldo the Apache” A thickly accented, vengeance-driven officer from Maynardville, Tennessee, who puts together a team of eight soldiers. He claims to be a descendant of mountain man Jim Bridger and bears a rope burn on his neck, which is not mentioned in the film (the script implies that he might have survived a lynching once). One of the film’s protagonists, the character has been described as “a voluble, freewheeling outlaw” similar to Jules Winnfield from Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction. The character’s name is a tribute to the character actor Aldo Ray, who appeared as a tough soldier in many WWII films such as Men in War, Battle Cry, and What Did You Do in the War, Daddy?.

Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds will please fans!
