Most avid readers will tell you, “The book was better”. (Remember “Just Cause”…incredible book, mediocre movie!)
But there are a few movies that end up being just as good as the book.
One writer, in particular, has had some movie adaptations that were excellent.
Dennis Lehane is the author of “Mystic River”, “Gone Baby Gone” and “Shutter Island”.
All of these books were also hits on the silver screen.
One reason that books are often better is that many times, large and exciting portions of the book are left out. Having read “Mystic River” before seeing the movie I will say that the movie followed the book almost exactly. And that is a good thing because both the book and the movie were excellent.
While I have the book of “Gone Baby Gone” I have yet to read it, but the movie was great.
And “Shutter Island” was one of the most enjoyable films that I have seen lately.
Looking forward to the book!
